6th May – 15th May 2003:

Feb 2003 – Apr 2003:
Reporter for the Daily Mirror newspaper; I was initially taken on to do two weeks work experience and was then offered a job as a casual paid worker, largely to find celebrities willing to sign the Mirror anti-war petition and interview celebrities about war with Iraq. I interviewed Pierce Brosnan, Anita Roddick, Harry Enfield, Peter Gabriel, Terry Waite, Jack Dee, Beth Orton and many others. I also wrote news articles and attended court trials and events on behalf of the Mirror. I had to stop doing full time paid work in order to complete my journalism course, but I still do occasional freelance work for the Mirror.
Sept 2002 - Present:
Freelance writer for the Insight newspaper, Brighton; I write reviews and interviews. I have interviewed Hanif Koreshi, Micheal Moore, Professor Von Hagens and several Brighton entrepreneurs for this monthly newspaper.
Sept 2002 – Present:
Freelance writer and researcher for The Argus newspaper, Brighton; I have written articles including an investigation into whether West Pier was destroyed by arson, an undercover piece exposing tanning salons for breaking the law, an article about homeless women in Brighton and the lack of support networks assisting them, and interviews with Anita Roddick and Ken Livingstone, in which he exclusively revealed his support for the Brighton ‘City of Culture’ bid.
Aug 2002 – Sept 2002:
Editorial assistant for The Sainsbury Institute, subbing Japanese historical and scientific periodicals.
Aug 2002: Proof reader for the Eastern Daily Press newspaper, Norwich.
July 2001 – July 2002:
Elected sabbatical ‘Communications Officer’: managing editor of a weekly newspaper, The Badger, an award winning monthly magazine, the pulse, a listings magazine, Planet Brighton and manager of a radio station, University Radio Falmer. Journalistic duties included everything from subbing and deciding on content to designing and writing articles. I was also responsible for the content of the Students’ Union website, for all other publicity, press releases, and recruitment of journalists.

Achievements

I have written many news, reviews and features articles for national and local newspapers, student and business publications and websites, all of which I would be happy to pass on if desired.
I am adept at providing crisp, tight, quality content to tight deadlines, and my wealth of printed freelance work proves my talents as an adaptable, creative and determined writer.
Whilst managing editor of the student newspaper, I persuaded my reporters to go out around Brighton and find news, instead of waiting for information to find us. I successfully transformed The Badger from a photocopied reviews-based news sheet into a professional, popular newspaper, by recruiting and rigorously training my team of dedicated student volunteers. I organised training for the editors to be undertaken by Rachel Simmons, General Editor of the Weekend Telegraph, and with my team of volunteers I attended Guardian and Telegraph Media Conferences to gain a deeper understanding of the work of a national journalist. The media surveys I designed and despatched to students demonstrated overwhelming satisfaction with student media at Sussex University the year I oversaw student publications.

Interests
and Activities

I love daring challenges and have walked on hot coals, and hitchhiked to Morocco for the charity Link Africa. I have always had a keen interest in politics and current affairs. As well as winning the sabbatical election at Sussex University in a landslide victory against four opponents, I also won a mock Newsround election for the Green Party at sixth form. On a personal level, I am confident, enthusiastic, and very hard working. I find it easy to relate to many different kinds of people.
